The local council (Yarra Ranges) have asked residents to stop feeding cockatoos as they are increasingly destroying many (wooden) properties and trees. The Leader Newspaper noted that council was petitioned to institute a ban on feeding, or start culling the destructive birds, but at the moment, the council only recommends not feeding the wildlife.
Unfortunately, the silly birds have a good memory, and do not take kindly to the lack of food. Luckily we have put an extra layer of wood on the horizontal railings, and the flocks are gradually visiting less often.
